New Jersey Deserves a Seat at the Table in Congestion Pricing
In New York’s Congestion Pricing Scheme, New York wins at the expense of New Jersey.
NJ Commuters will be forced to pay an ADDITIONAL toll (what is essentially a TAX) to enter NYC’s Central Business District – from below 60th Street to Battery Park:
-
Proposed: Another $11 for cars and $25 for trucks. Maybe even HIGHER.
-
It could cost NJ Commuters more than $3,000 MORE PER YEAR.
-
All of that money goes DIRECTLY to New York.
-
New Jersey GETS NOTHING in return even though WE are paying.
-
ALL the funds go to improving New York’s Public Transit – NOTHING FOR NEW JERSEY’S PUBLIC TRANSIT.
-
NO New Jersey Officials are involved in how the plan will be implemented. It will be decided by New York Political appointees.
-
New Jersey DOES NOT GET A SEAT AT THE TABLE.
-
Launching Congestion Pricing during the Pandemic ignores the COVID reality. If ANY plan is to be considered, it should wait until the “New Normal” returns.
-
Pre-Pandemic, over 400,000 New Jerseyans commuted to NYC for work while also paying New York State Income Taxes. (I double checked this stat with Diana)
-
Simply put – this is a SHAKEDOWN of hard working people from New Jersey who are ESSENTIAL to New York City’s Economy.
DOES THIS SOUND FAIR?
